One of our personal project that shouldn't be posted on the blog for breaking our own rules (not including x264 as an option). IF YOU FEEL UNSATISFIED WITH THIS, then just ignore this post. Asking for other resolution/codec/size will never be granted.
The show was shot in 16mm cameras which gives it a natural grainy look. We don't want to lose that grain effect and decided to start this project after doing few experiment playing with the x265 settings and of course, tried the x264 encode as well (on same bitrate with x265, but appear much worse, almost unwatchable on big screen unless I set the bitrate much higher than this). In the end I was very pleasant with the result, shrinked 1.2TB source into 157 GB and retaining Walking Dead's original look. Encoding took us 2 weeks straight. Comparison with other encoders and source itself shown below.
