The theatrical have no claire, henry, sonya (claire’s mom) story at all. Amanda from the first movie turns out to be alived and forced to create new rooms because her daughter is being held hostage. The movie ends with cliffhanger as Zoey and Ben took a flight.
All in all, the theatrical is dumb and dry like the Fast and furious shit, every movie reviewers agree. This extended version is alot better and give the movie some meaning.

yes, it is different. I saw the full theatrical version where Zoe and Ben took a ride on a plane for real at the ending. That should be a cliffhanger for a third sequel
