Question for the smarter people out there. I finally purged my movie collection of old AVI movies. They were <480p at 700-1000MB. I was able to replace most of them with 720p x264 copies that look a ton better at roughly the same size.
Now we have x265, which at 1080p, it's 1.76gb vs 2.72gb. basically a GB of space savings per movie. Are these actually the same quality?? Will x264 go down the same as old mpeg1/2 and avi?
I just want to make sure I'm not wasting time/space on x264. Thanks
The main problem with x265 is that it is not as device friendly as x264 so if you don’t have any issues when playing it on your device like TV or phone, then go for x265.
Try to compare both by yourself, and research between x264 and x265.
It will give you the final answer for your need.
Since i have media server, i just move to choose 1080p x265 from 720p x264
