I think you should only release HDR print for UHD source. If people want SDR print they can download release from regular BD.

many of times HDR to SDR conversion gives better result than regular BD, tough not in this case
The encoder know better how to encode
Tugimin: Pahe HEVC encode still inferior than other HEVC encoder out there. They always bit starve and inefficient. Pahe needs powerful hardware.
Of course it bit starved. Because they need to put the size lesser than their x264 codec. If they bump the bitrate closer or even surpass the x264, it wouldn’t make any sense. I doesn’t have nothing to do with hardware.
But that’s how people like it. Small size and acceptable quality. Can you find other encoder that did better in same or lesser size?
Qman: Just look at PSA HEVC encode adaptation. That’s the proof of how HEVC can go in terms of efficiency.
Admin made several comparison on discord. Most of their encodes are in par. Unless other encoder applied denoise filter that makes the video unaturally smooth which some people like it but it removed how the video supposed to look
Also PSAs encode tend to 30-40 bigger especially on movies. Sometimes the size are same with Pahe’s x264 encode. That’s explain everything. Like I said Pahe’s x264 encodes somehow create the ‘limit’ to x265 bitrate. It’s like unwritten rules that x265 must be smaller than x264
Qman: filmmaker put the grain FX at first. In order to compress heavily encoder must apply DNR filter. If you really are a purist you should enjoy remux or encode that not really got compressed like hell.
If you’re talking about this movie in particular, I don’t think CRF 18/21 is considered as ‘bitrate starved’. Hell I bet if PSA create their 4K HDR later, the bitrate/size would be similar just like they did on Sonic 4K

If you guys enjoy media on small screen such as smartphone, laptop, tablet – Pahe and PSA encode should look fine.
If you enjoy media on big screen like TV (especially OLED) or projector – you should go for remux or other good encoder out there. If not all the flaw of compression such will appear.
You’re right FGT. If from web source (Amazon, Netflix, iTunes, Disney+, etc.) take the untouched version. Right now untouched web source media always looks very good than BRrip.
My thought here if you want ‘quality’ here take the x264 1080p. Pahe’s 1080p x264 is very solid and rarely to have starved bitrate, at least for ‘mini 1080p’ standard. I think the x265 here meant for saving space only not to maintain quality to have a par with x264 encode.

Idiots, Why are you complaining about the quality?, I like Pahe Because they offer 480p Movies and less than 500mb and yet very Watchable and has a decent Quality. Its for people with limited bandwidth I have a limited bandwidth so fuck off scoundrel, Pahe is the best for that thing don’t take it away. With my bandwidth I can download 5 movies in a day because of 480p. that’s spectacular considering my internet bandwidth allocation per day.
