I’ve noticed a recurring trope in thriller crime drama series: there are almost always one or two children who openly defy their parents and ultimately undermine their own families through sheer recklessness and poor judgment, leaving the parents to repair the damage. Is this genuinely how Western media chooses to portray itself? Perhaps it explains why, when these children reach adulthood and their parents grow old, they are relegated to nursing homes, as though filial affection has simply eroded. Western values, as depicted in such narratives, often seem to corrode and contaminate the strong family ethics, respect, and manners traditionally upheld in Asian and Mexican cultures.
