Lol, even x265 is not widely used by the Scene Queen.
Right now, we are at a very very early stage before it gains traction among the scene community, a bit like the first time we were wowed by H264 when it started to take over from XviD around 2007, the first H265 encodes made their appearance in 2014 but were of crappy quality. Mind you, AVC will still be sticking around for maybe half a decade before it gets put down for good. The reason is producers always prioritise marketability than efficiency. Streaming services would of course pick H264 because its reach out trumps H265 esp in the mobile market: let’s say better bandwidth year over year but do we really need H265 if it streams well enough at 1080p? Most of us watch videos on mobile anyway. Hardware-assisted HEVC decode is still getting pushed to TV sets and mobile phones worldwide. Now go figure how long it will take for APUs and graphics cards to encode VVC. Benchmarks say it’s 4 to 10 times slower – with what we have right now of course. My take is HEVC and AV1 will battle out for the next few years. I’d love to see AV1 encodes btw – as an improvement over HEVC.

I liked how the movie portrayed the perils of running a convoy during the Battle of the Atlantic. I also got a sense of the high standard of seamanship involved if you’re part of the crew manning the navy vessels.
Movie is obviously made with a tight budget in mind but it turns out to be okay. I wouldn’t recommend to watch it if you’ll be paying for it in a cinema but since you can get it for free here, go ahead and watch it.
