wish you had added 6ch audio 192kbps to 720p like you used to. i loved that. it was perfect. wonder why you stopped something so great. it gave a nice option to people who didnt want big size but still wanted surround audio. anyway, thank you very much for 4k.

The source of the 720p x264 version here on Pahe is from 1080p.BluRay.x264.DTS-FGT. No 4K Blu-ray has been made. Not really sure there are much better sources out there aside from some AI upscaled choices and those may or may not look any better.
If you’re just looking for a 1080p version you can get one for download at M4uHD. It’s 1.50 GB x264 with 2 CH AAC. Another similar choice is the YTS at 1.98 GB x264 with 2 CH AAC.
Thanks a lot man. I’ll go for the 1080p version that you mentioned. It’s such a shame a sequel to the most important movie of all time never got 4k release

2010 isn’t a bad film but it does not measure up in the same vicinity of 2001 for a few reasons.
1. No Kubrick. Not just for the direction, but the writing too. Though obviously Clarke was part of both, Hyams just isn’t the same calibre of writer and especially director.
2. The visuals and cinematography. One is absolutely stunning and awe inspiring. The other is… not.
3. The soundtrack. And more importantly, the synergy of the audio and visual together.
4. The “mind fuck” -edness 2001. 55+ years later, people STILL talk about the plot of 2001.
I will say 2010 is a bit underappreciated and underrated. It’s not a bad film at all. It’s a very decent continuation of the narrative and actually pretty faithful to Clarke’s “Odyssey Two”.
2010 is good sci-fi. But it’s just no 2001 and as such doesn’t get the same recognition because 2001 was more than just sci-fi.
