HBO stuck this white vs black narrative inside a show where they could have made Hal and John bond well and bridge the whole racism gap but instead they had to fucking exploit it for ratings.
6 episodes in and not even 5k ratings, looks like people refused to even sit through this garbage to even bother trying. Perhaps wise actually. This is going to fall real far down the months.

john stewart’s parents raise him in a brainwashed environment after his father is rejected by the ring when John was a kid. but his mom does a deal with a guardian (the people that made the lanterns), and raises their kid in a brutal manner, shooting apples off his head among other things to be FEARLESS, any other kid would be traumatized but this fella just quietly accepts it like a emotionless robot.
normally you would call this as a “Abusive family environment”, but because there’s aliens involved and a lucky prize involved, it’s all okay.
you know what’s funny, an alien that looks like a blue scary monster to normal people and would freak them out, that alien took a disguise of a white woman, and that made John’s mom flip out, “you would not understand the discrimination we face waaaah”, imagine telling that to an alien who looks weird and horrific to anyone for the first time.
Yeah that’s just two scenes from the show.
