This tragic experience would never have happened if the protagonist were living in a society ruled by Islam and governed through the Sharia. The woman wouldn’t have been burdened of the task of choosing his husband because her father would do it for her in accordance with Islamic laws. Moreover, in the rare case of a crime being committed, it would be swiftly resolved by the Islamic police and the perpetrator judiciously tried and sentenced by the Sharia court in an efficient manner.

Ahh yes like in Iran where women are beaten by morality police on the streets, often times resulting in death simply for a reason like not wearing a hijab.
