For me, the best version (quality versus space) is 720p x264 (8Bit), because:
– x265 (HEVC) is created for 4K and 8K, but for 1080p … the quality is not as good as x264 (AVC) (save a screenshot for x264 and x265, and enlarge and compare these, the compression of x265 is too aggressive in order to save more space than x264)
– 10Bit = for a very small increase in quality (at colour banding), many people still don’t have the hardware to play 10Bit videos
– 720p looks almost as good as 1080p, for much less space
– 480p is not good at image quality, but can be usefully to some
Now it is the time to put the 720p x264 (8Bit) version in Plex, so my friend from other country to watch from my computer (I hope that will play directly, without further conversion and reduction in quality).
