  1. Just when you think a recent movie that came out is an original idea, you find out it’s just a remake of an old movie. Typical these days.

    • Know what you mean. Been a few movies lately that I found out were remakes after seeing the originals posted somewhere. Anyway, doesn’t mean the remakes are bad movies, just think it would be better if Hollywood had more original ideas than they do.

    • I agree with you, but you know that most of the remakes that Hollywood churns out nowadays are garbage. It’s very rare when they’re better than the originals. Most remakes from the 80’s and 90’s were much better than the ones from now. Such as Scarface (1983), The Fly (1986) and Cape Fear (1991). Something I like about remakes is that they’re an updated version for the times. It’s a disappointment when they suck.

I really thought The Beguiled was an original idea by Sofia Coppola. Turns out that it’s based on a novel. Not necessarily a copy of this movie as I thought. Still technically a remake, though.

    • Really hate it when they remake a movie, and just totally mess it up. Like with Ghostbusters. It didn’t need to be remade, was great how it was. That’s how it is with a lot of these “reboots” Hollywood is trying to shove down our throats. Same with Red Dawn, Footloose, The Karate Kid and so on. They didn’t need a remake.

And now they are wanting to remake Roadhouse with Rhonda Rousey, then they are talking about remaking Flight of the Navigator, Short Circuit, Monster Squad, plus many more, all movies I grew up on. Really annoys the heck out of me they want to mess with movies that are perfect in my opinion.

    • You’re preaching to the choir right there. Ghostbusters definitely did not need to be remade. I know most people feel the same way. Imagine if they rebooted Back to the Future and totally fucked it up. I’m sure the studio suits have been dying to do it, but can’t. If they’re going to keep remaking stuff, what they need to do is stop messing with classics and only remake less known movies that sucked, and make them better.

  4. I have two theories regarding remakes.
1] It’s a cheap way of churning out “entertainment” for money and not about retelling a good story in a different way (how many times have Shakespeare’s plays been turned into films told from a different angle? Most equally valid.) like turning old TV shows into films (Starsky & Hutch was sacrilegious. End of.)
2] The directors remaking some of these movies wish they had made the original and are living out a wet dream they were always incapable of actualising.

And the most pointless remake of all? The shot for shot remake of Psycho.
Some things you just Leave TF Alone. Hitchcock classics are foremost on that list.
Besides. There are far better ways of getting Anne Heche naked in a shower.
